square and round dance in eastern ontario

Graham Ingram

By Paul Adams

To the best of my knowledge Graham & Judy started Square Dancing at the Triangle Squares with Gary Young as their Caller. In between 1977 & 1979 when they came to The Village Squares, I remember there were about 4 couples came out to visit and they had their Trillium outfits on, and the men had Trilliums embroidered on the bottom of the pant leg.

Graham started Calling in about 1981 or 1982 under my guidance. He started with Calling for the Village Squares Class. He went on to Call for the Kountry Cousins in Winchester, for I believe the Happy Squares in Brockville, the first Date Squares, Mississippi Squares, (for a couple of different times), and Kanata Town Squares, and likely called more One Night Stands than any other member of OACA! Graham attended The Dick Ledger School for Callers and I believe he also became an instructor with Dick's School.

Graham not only CaIIed Squares, but Cued Rounds, and Prompted Contra Dancing. He was a music teacher, a musician playing Guitar & Bass in a band, and was also the music director for The Governor Generals Foot Guards. Graham often gave very interesting Presentations on Timing and Call Delivery, and One Night Stands here at the OACA.

In 2007 Graham was awarded the Ontario Federation Trillium Award. I had the pleasure of teaching Graham's son Ron and daughter Karan to Square Dance back when we had Adams Apples (a teen club) and as well as teaching Graham's new wife Kerry to Square Dance. Graham for all the Square Dance Calling, Teaching, Cueing, Prompting, and presentations we say Thank You for all you have done for the movement!
