History of the Lyrics Project

Starting with 45 rpm records

I've been creating my own lyrics files for most of my calling life. I initially printed my lyrics files on 8 1/2" x 11" paper and cut them to fit the 7x7 inch clear plastic sleeves for my 45 rpm records. I found it easier to create a lyrics file using HTML tags and then print it, rather than to use my outdated copy of MS Word. Since I was a webmaster, this was a no brainer. Thus I went from the original lyrics sheets like these...

to a more consistent easy-to-read format. There were a few embellishments as the years went by so early lyrics files didn't always look exactly the same as later lyrics files.

For laptops and SqView

Then when SqView and mp3 files became "a thing", the lyrics files changed to add color to make things even clearer. And the fact that they were already coded as web files made the transition even easier because I just had to change the definition of the codes in one common file, not rewrite the lyrics files themselves. (Try changing the color and indent levels on 500 MS Word files ... Argggh!)
